    Go For The Greens

Greens are the only living thing that can transform sunshine into food that all living creatures can consume, there would be no life on our planet without greens, as the life purpose of all greens is to produce chlorophyll. With a a high oxygen content in chlorophyll and a high mineral content in green plants, greens are the most alkalizing foods there are.

Green leafy vegetables are one of the most alkaline forming foods available, mainly due to their high chlorophyll content. Being alkaline forming means that they help to reduce inflammation in the body, so can benefit anyone with inflammatory conditions including arthritis, autoimmune disease, endometriosis, psoriasis, acne, allergies, asthma, ulcerative colitis and headaches.

Studies have found that simply by integrating green smoothies or juice (see my famous green juice recipe below) into your daily diet, changes can be seen in your energy, mood and digestion within days. By eating a variety of green leafy vegetables every day you can ensure you are getting good amounts of iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin K, B vitamins, folate and boron, along with an awesome amount of chlorophyll and fiber.

The challenge is to get these health benefits we not only need to eat a lot of greens every day but we also need to digest them. Without proper chewing (Dental health and the Oral/Body Connection are discussed in detail in the Blaze Free System) green leafy vegetables do not release all of their nutrients, so you may be missing out on some of the benefit. Salads are delightful, but make sure that you chew them very well. The easiest way to get high amounts of greens into your diet is with juicing or a green smoothie.

Benefits of Chlorophyll in Leafy Greens

Chlorophyll rich green juices, have many advantages. While not the best tasting, they become more palatable when paired with apples and some other fruits and vegetables.

What chlorophyll & leafy greens can do for you

All greens have a cleansing effect on our bowls and elimination systems, which in turn cleans our blood, lymph and cells. When a body is clean, it’s efficient and works properly. Period. It’s hard for a clean body to develop diseases or problems. Most problems in our body stem from a blockage in our body. When this isn’t an issue, you are well and live the way you want.

Our bodies are sick because our organs, glands, muscles and systems are intoxicated with wastes, drugs and chemical residue. Green juices are the best option for cleaning your body because of the cleansing effect that it has on our whole body.

Benefits that chlorophyll in greens can have on your body

    Helps to relieve inflammatory pain

    Improves circulation

    Destroys bacteria

    Helps to purify liver

Helps to remove and counteract toxins

    Helps blood sugar problems

    Milk production in lactating women

    Reduces body odors

    Soothes stomach ulcers

Builds a high red blood cell count

    Deodorizes bowels

So what is chlorophyll and how does it work in your body?

Photosynthesis in the leaves of plants has chemicals activated by sunlight to draw carbon dioxide from the air through the pores of the leaves. It is the green pigment in the leaves that absorbs sunlight and changes it into chemical energy. After some chemical reactions of splitting of water molecules and recombining hydrogen/oxygen with carbon and oxygen of carbon dioxide, carbohydrates are formed.

It is often called the lifeblood of the plants. The chlorophyll molecule is almost identical to the hemoglobin molecule of the blood (the main difference being that there is magnesium molecule in the greens but there is iron in the center of hemoglobin). By consuming this nutrient which is nearly identical to our blood, it restores and cleans our systems. Get them in my friend!!

Pretty much all greens contain chlorophyll. If it is green, it will have it (edible or not). Here is a basic list of the some of the most popular greens used for juicing or blending into a juice.

    Dandelion greens

    Collard greens

    Mustard greens

    Wheatgrass

    Spinach

    Swiss Chard

    Sprouts

    Alfalfa

    Turnip greens

    Watercress

    Cilantro

This is just a starting list, you can always use other greens. (Go easy on the Spinach & Kale, they're not the superfoods that we've been lead to believe. Dino Kale is the better kale variety.  Try to incorporate the other greens when you make your own salad and eat kale and spinach if you don't have many other salad options offered when dining out)

Healing the body with leafy greens

Because leafy greens and green juices are healing, many people use or integrate them when in a health crisis or into their daily diet. If you have autoimmune conditions or chronic inflammatory diseases, consider juicing greens and having more salads everyday.

Greens will increase your red blood cell count and clean out your body. A clean body is a healthy body. And a high red blood cell count helps to resist and remove disease.

If you are just starting out with juicing, you may need to dilute your green juices with other fruits and vegetables or cut it with a little water to dilute it’s strength. While it will never do harm, it might detoxify rapidly in your system causing some discomfort starting out until you're used to it.

If you don’t have a juicer and prefer to use a blender, you can have much more in a day this way. Green smoothies have chlorophyll and are a wonderful way to get greens into your diet to heal and cleanse your body. Because you are blending the fiber with the juice in a smoothie, it takes a bit longer for your body to digest and won’t detoxify your body as rapidly.
